Lizzi Larbalestier, Blue Health Coach at Going Coastal Blue, joins us for this episode to share her wonderful story of marrying her love for all things nature with her work as a coach in the Coastal areas of Cornwall.
Lizzi talks about the importance of understanding the systems which we are all part of, and seeing links between and within eco-systems. Drawing on Blue Health Science, Blue Mind and Ambiguity as the fundamental parts of Blue Health Coaching, her work is scientifically researched and the outdoors is her co-partner. It is an extension of herself as an ambassadors for a number of environmental organisations such as Surfers Against Sewage and Ghost Net Busters.
She tells delightful stories of some of the more interesting coaching sessions she’s had, such as coming across a nudist beach and a man in nothing but his sandals, finding a man with a broken leg on the coastal path whilst training new Blue Health Coaches, and rescuing an injured guillemot which then became a third “person” in the coaching conversation.
Lizzi is also a Marine Mammal Medic, rescuing and rehabilitating seals. She really does lead a hugely fascinating life and we are so excited to share this podcast with you.

Our guest
Lizzi is an ICF Blue Health Coach, NLP and mBIT Trainer and marine based change facilitator coaching and training professional coaches at the coast here in the UK and overseas. Her eco-centric coaching approach is truly provocative yet playful; philosophical debate and humour having key roles within her work.
Environmental psychology and ocean advocacy are at the heart of her work, and her personal and professional development activities distil a wide mix of modalities. She is a blue-health specialist championing water-centric (blue mind) wellness interventions and encouraging truly embodied cognition.
Her Masters thesis studied “ambiguity leverage” asking how and why some of us are more certainty-reliant than others, exploring the very nature of risk and control and discovering what we can do about this during transitional times. She uses the coast as a shifting landscape for existential discussions grounded in neuroscience. Enabling clients to find greater comfort with the analogue world creates a more coherent approach to decision making.
A deeper connection with the natural environment, particularly blue space provides resources for ongoing healthy social ecology and she describes a core part of her purpose as: connecting with our ocean planet, awakening to the analogue world and the ripple effect of all choices in order to live and lead from a place of love.
